Business Name Registration

€100.00

Trading under a name that isn't your own? It needs to be registered.

If you carry on business in Ireland under a name other than your own true name, your company's full corporate name or the true names of all partners, the business name must be registered with the Companies Registration Office (CRO). Registration makes public who is behind the business name.

Registration is required when, for example:

  • a sole trader uses a name that differs from their surname (John Sullivan trading as Sullivan Builders, but not as John Sullivan);
  • a partnership trades under a name other than the true names of all its partners;
  • a company trades under a name that differs in any way from its full registered name.

What's included

  • Availability check on your proposed name
  • Preparation and filing of the CRO registration
  • Your Certificate of Registration of Business Name

Please note that registering a business name does not give ownership of, or legal protection over, the name. You no longer need a registered business name to register a .ie domain.
